Readers R'us: Our reading challenge

Hey Friends!

First, let me apologise, seeing as I haven't posted in a while. I'm a newbie in the world of blogging after all, getting the hang of it though... lol. Well really, it's also the last half of our school year and there are loads of activities to plan and execute. Hence, the reason for my seeming inconsistency. Trust me though, in no time, I'll be hooking you up with post 'biweekly'.
Anyway, today's post is about me and reading...Ding! Ding! Ding!

Way back in school, I never really enjoyed reading.  From school books to story books to the bible, reading wasn't my thing. I know if my parents had their way, i'll wake up dreaming of books but I guess I was either lazy or their approach was ineffective. Which ever the case maybe, I'm glad that after so many years, my love for books and reading has finally emerged... yayyy!!!  lol

When I decided to start writing about my experiences with the kids, I had to start reading. I knew I was a "lame" writer and reading would eventually improve my writing skills. So in the bid to be deliberate and with the help of an amazing friend I started reading. I get so excited when I think about the fact that in the space of five months I have read about twelve books and still counting... * Please clap for me. You've got to give me some credit, coming from a place where I barely read half a book in two months*.

While I was reading a book a couple of months back, I decided to start a reading challenge - to read at least 50 books this year... Yes! 50! you heard me right ... lol

I'll let the Thomas in me and the others out there know that,"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

Right now, reading makes me feel a step ahead in my game. The idea behind the challenge is to be specific about my goals for reading. I'm not exactly particular about the books but I know that 5 out of every 10 books I read should be on Early years development and education (Montessori education inclusive).

When I shared the idea with a couple of friends some got challenged. But guess who also got challenged? The kids!!! Lol. Which makes it even more exciting. The four and five year old's are excited about reading even the three year old's are trying to get in on the action. I am positively buzzed!

  1. Hi Adaeze! I'm excited for you and the kids. And I am particularly happy to learn about kids getting excited about reading. Your reading goal - of 50 books - for the year is HUGE! I'm pulling for you girl! Can you share some of the 50 titles with us? Perhaps a book or two will appeal to me. Will you be sharing your thoughts on some of the books as you finish them? That would be really nice.

    1. Hello Nduka, I'm glad you find the reading challenge exciting. I know its huge but I'm making deliberate effort. Please be encouraged to do the same... lol. We can do it! Hopefully i'll read 50 and more... yeah! I'm not sure I want to put up a list of the books I have read/reading here because the blog is more about children than me. However, I will consider sharing thoughts on some child related books. Will that be helpful?
