She walked up to me during community snacking and offered me her snack. According to her, "Ms Ada always gives my friends her snacks when mummy forgets to put snack in their bag. But Ms Ada doesn't have any snack today so she can have all my snack". I asked her if she was sure I could have everything and she said "yes Ms Ada. Take everything! ". I asked her if she wasn't hungry and she said "I'm hungry but I can just wait till the long hand gets to twelve (12 pm ) so I can have my lunch".
That day during circle time, we reminded ourselves that Love is sharing...
As adults, We all have different perspectives of Love and our expressions of it differs depending on the situations and (or) persons involved. Experience has also shown that our emotional state most times affects our perception of Love. This explains why we express love differently. But what if we loved like children... without a thought!
Personally, I have come to understand that our perception of Love also stems from the effect of our society on us from childhood...

The abused child, beaten, cursed out... The child born of working parents who only care about providing material needs... The child born into a home where there is constant rivalry and competition among members of the family... The child who had no one to acknowledge their good deeds or efforts... The child who everyone looked down on because of a seeming defect... The child who never got hugs or kind words, no one to tell them how beautiful they are... The child bullied and ridiculed... The child with no one to share their dreams and aspirations...
"The whole of mankind is one and only one, one race, one class and one society "-- Maria Montessori
The Montessori environment teaches the child to love not just themselves, but everyone and everything around them, It teaches them to care for nature because we are after all, dependent on it for survival.

Happy Valentine's day!!!
You're doing such an amazing job! This is an inspiring read. You should listen to 'She was watching' by Mark Schultz. It reminds me of how much children learn just by watching us. I believe the little girl was willing to share her snacks with Ms Ada because she had seen Ms Ada share hers. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'll definitely listen to the song

ReplyDeleteChildren are our reflections. They 'do as we do'. Great job Ms Ada, we trust God for more of you to help raise the world we so desire, because children are the world.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is quite interesting. Every child deserves a contagious exposure to love as this 4yr old. If we show our children how to love, the world will be a better place. Perfect piece Ms Ada
